Higher education is so edifying!
In addition to Calculus and Comparative Literature, American universities are now offering lectures and workshops on such mind-expanding subjects as masturbation, anal sex, S-M rope-tying and “safe” electrocuting.
Katherine Timpf reports for Campus Reform, Jan. 28, 2014, that the University of Tennessee (UT) will have lectures on masturbation, orgasm, pornography, and anal sex for its second annual Sex Week from March 2 through March 7, 2014.
As a public university, UT receives both federal and state taxpayer funds.
One event, “Get Wet: Exploring the Connections Between Sexual Pleasure, Health, & Advocacy” will ask students “When is an orgasm a political act? When is lube a tool of the revolution?” The event description promises that host Megan Andelloux, who calls herself “a Clinical Sexologist and certified Sexuality Educator,” will “demonstrate how three components of sexuality – pleasure, health, and advocacy – flow into one another as we explore a variety of topics centered on reproductive justice and sexual freedom.”
The event will also inform students “which sexual health issues are involved in back-door lovin’ [euphemism for anal sex], why you should care about sex workers’ rights, and how you can defend your own sexual freedom through self-love [euphemism for masturbation].”
Porn actress and self-described feminist pornograher Tristan Taormino, whose acting and producing credits include House of Ass, Expert Guide to Hand Jobs for Men and Women, and Chemistry 4: The Orgy Edition, will be on hand (no pun intended) to answer questions like “Can porn be ethical?” and “What is ‘good’ porn?” Taormino will also share her thoughts on “why she thinks anti-porn feminists haven’t watched enough porn.”
Another event, “We Can’t Stop: Orgasms and Masturbation” asks “How do you masturbate?” and promises that “Dr. Lindsey Doe will give us all a hand on this often frustrating topic.” Other events will include “My Milkshake Brings All the Boys to the Yard: Aphrodisiac Cooking Class,” “Drop It Like It’s Hot: Sex Week Dance Class.”
A Sex Week organizer defended the controversial events, saying that they are necessary to reduce sexual assault. “In order to combat rape culture, we have to stop the sexual repression, because less sexual oppression leads to less sexual violence,” junior Nicky Hackenbrack, a board member of Sexual Empowerment and Awareness at Tennessee (SEAT), wrote in a piece for The Daily Beacon, the college’s newspaper.
UT’s first Sex Week made headlines last year for planning to spend $20,000 on events including a “Golden Condom Scavenger Hunt” and lectures by a sexologist titled “Big Orange, Big…;)” and “How Many Licks Does it take….” Amid criticism, the school cut $11,145 in state funds from the program, putting on a scaled-back version using $6,700 in student fees.
Meanwhile, not to be outdone, the private University of Chicago (UC) will also have a second annual Sex Week Feb. 6-16, featuring how-to workshops on bondage, oral sex, and how to safely electrocute your partner for sexual pleasure.
Sex Week consists of nearly 40 events and will run from Feb. 8-16.
Katherine Timpf reports for Campus Reform, Feb. 5, 2014, that UC’s Sex Week consists of nearly 40 events.
The event description for “Taste of Kink” reads: ”Come explore … the exchanges and sensations that can be generated by floggers, rope, electricity, and more”.
Rope-tying will also have a workshop of its own, which promises to teach students more advanced techniques. ”Want to learn to tie your partner up? Curious about bondage, but didn’t know how to try on your own? We’ll be showing the basics of rope tying, and a bit beyond the basics!” the event description states.
The school will also offer how-to workshops on dirty talk, oral sex, roleplay, and a circus-themed workshop on “partner acrobatics.”
Other events include a clothing-optional Lascivious Ball, a presentation from porn star Jessica Drake, and the “Temple of Cum and Other Queer Blasphemies,” a presentation which “will explore mashups of spirituality and sexuality.”
The events are sponsored by the school in partnership with the pornographic film company Wicked Pictures, Early2Bed Sex Toy Store, The Pleasure Chest Sex Toy Store, and Cedars Mediterranean Kitchen.
