Will Smith’s Price Tag Too High for Independance Day Sequel

The film that launched Big Willie into superstardom can no longer afford him for the sequel. Independence Day 2 is set to be released on July 3, 2015 and the director Roland Emmerich says that Will can’t do the film because his price tag is too high.
Emmerich says,
“Will Smith cannot come back because he’s too expensive, but he’d also be too much of a marquee name, It would be too much.
We have like maybe half of the people that you know would know from the first film (in the script) and the other half of the people who are new,”
The 1996 film made $817.4 million and the genius behind it was that it had a lot of up and coming stars but no certified leading man. This recipe helped Will Smith transition from TV Star to Superstar.
The movie certainly will not be the same without Will Smith but this is Hollywood and the show must go on. To date, believe it or not, Independence Day is still Will Smith’s biggest movie.
