The Chosen One no more. David Moyes’ reign of terror at Manchester United ended Tuesday, and the final symbol of his tenure was removed on Thursday. The infamous ‘ The Chosen One ‘ banner was taken down from the Stretford End at Old Trafford. Today as the first day on the job for United Caretaker Manager Ryan Giggs, and without the Stretford End supporter group had a new banner as an homage to Ryan Giggs.

Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata both scored twice as Giggs oversaw a comfortable 4-0 win over Norwich City at home today.


The Moyes banner is emblematic of the hype, pomp, circumstance and ultimately flame out that surrounded Sir Alex Ferguson’s hand-picked successor. The chosen one is a phrase that’s a reference to Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho’s nickname “the Special One.”


And it didn’t take long for a bitter Arsenal supporter to make a parody of the Ryan Giggs banner:
