When Danica Patrick completed her 2012 exit interviews following the NASCAR season, she carefully avoided any discussions of her personal life. Then, two days after the season ended, she made the announcement that she was divorcing her husband after seven years of marriage. Therefore, at Homestead-Miami Speedway the topic of her boyfriend and fellow NASCAR driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was front and center.
And the Associated Press did a revealing write-up of it all. Is Danica Patrick Pregnant? Is Danica Patrick Engaged?
“Pregnant? No. I can promise you not,” Danica Patrick laughed in her response to the AP. “The other one? I don’t know. I’m the girl. It could be never, it could be tomorrow.”
“I would, absolutely. I love love,” she said when asked about the prospect of getting married again. “But if I’m getting married is not a question I know the answer to. Should we go get Ricky and you can ask him yourself?”
Danica had a very very rough rookie season at the highest level of NASCAR. This was Patrick’s first full season of Cup racing and it was pretty disastrous. Lots of finishes in the high 20s and 30s. One outing even included an early crash that placed her 43rd– of 43 participants.
The humbling experience that was the 2013 Danica Patrick Sprint Cup season has helped her become more grounded. Apparently, her ex-husband had a negative effect on her. He got in her head, and made that head swell. Danica Patrick was overrating herself in life. Or so claims Michael Andretti, Danica’s team leader from her years in IndyCar.
“Now that her husband’s out of there — he was not a good influence on her, I can tell you that,” Andretti said in March, two months after Patrick’s historic run at Daytona. “That’s when things went south with us when he started getting involved. He was very controlling. Had her think in funny ways. She was getting out of control. Her head was getting so big. You just couldn’t talk to her. I’m hoping she’s coming back down to Earth a little bit.”
