What's Being Said: The Nebraska Fallout

In what's becoming a weekly feature on this blog...once again, M bloggers have taken to the streets. Brace for impact.

MVictors:

When the offense took the field with a chance to win the game late in
the fourth quarter there was a stunning sound from the crowd: nothing.
Crickets.  Nervous mumbling at best.  This muffled din was delivered by
the crowd that unleashed the loudest Bronx Cheer ever recorded after the
team’s initial first down, and the same crowd that screamed like
schoolgirls when a blindside Husker defender was closing in on 98 during
the third quarter touchdown drive.

MGoBlog (Ace):

Brady Hoke's home winning streak is dead; that's not really the story.
It wasn't hard to see this coming, not after the narrow escape against
Akron, and certainly not after last week's debacle. When Drew Dileo
dropped a fourth-down pass on Michigan's last-gasp drive, it felt
depressingly fitting—of course the sure-handed receiver would let one
slip through his grasp at precisely the wrong time, because that's just
how this season has gone.

Maize & Brew:

Sometimes it just isn't your game/season/decade.  Michigan's offense has
taken leaps backwards every single game.  It is hard to imagine that
this is still the same group of players that put together a nearly
perfect outing against Notre Dame.  For the second straight game
Michigan failed to break into positive yardage on the ground (sacks
included).  Michigan was almost held out of the end zone for the second
straight game, save for the first drive of the second half — a brief
respite from the offensive ineptitude of the rest of the contest.

Maize & Go Blue:

Last week’s beat down at the hands of Michigan State removed the
goodwill towards Brady Hoke and his staff from much of the Michigan fan
base. But if there was one thing he could still hold his hat on it was
his unblemished home winning streak of 19 games, the longest such streak
in the nation. With Ohio State coming to town three weeks from now, all
signs pointed toward a battle of streaks – Ohio State’s should-be
23-game overall winning streak and Hoke’s 20-game home streak. But on a
relatively warm November Saturday in Ann Arbor, Nebraska did what hadn’t
been done since Wisconsin pulled it off in 2010 – beat Michigan in the
Big House.

Touch the Banner:

Okay, I've been wishy-washy on Funk's place on the staff, but this game
sealed his fate, in my opinion. For the second week in a row, Michigan
allowed 7 sacks. For the second week in a row, Michigan had negative
yards rushing (-21 this game after -48 last week). These are the types
of performances that get guys fired in the middle of the season.

Okay, I know, this is all terrible. But I'd be remiss if I didn't pass along this comment that I received on my game recap post that left me, at the very least, in a slightly more positive mood on this Sunday evening.

To our Michigan Brethren: Things are not always as bad as they sometimes may seem. You have great fan support, a storied program, good coaching, and great athletes. Sometimes in sports, things go in cycles. It's a crazy game. The Cornhuskers have great respect for the Wolverines. Don't give up on this year, yet. Lot's of football yet to be played. Win out and beat the Buckeyes and the sting of the recent setbacks will fade in memory. Wish you all the best in your upcoming games. With respect -- Cornhusker Nation.

Thanks for that.
